UK company “seriously considering” GPS tracking devices in school uniforms

Saturday, August 25, 2007

The leading supplier of school uniforms in the United Kingdom, Lancashire-based manufacturer Trutex, has announced it is “seriously considering” including GPS tracking devices in future ranges of its uniform products after conducting an online survey of both parents and children.

“As a direct result of the survey, we are now seriously considering incorporating a [tracking] device into future ranges” said Trutex marketing director Clare Rix.

The survey questioned 809 parents and 444 children aged nine to 16. It showed that 44% of parents were worried about the safety of pre-teen children, and 59% wanted tracking devices installed in school apparel. 39% of children aged nine to 12 were prepared to wear clothing with tracking devices in them, while teenagers were notably less enthusiastic and more wary of what Trutex has admitted they see as a “big brother” concept.

However, Trutex has claimed the tracking devices would bring about worthwhile benefits, including being a valuable resource for parents who wanted to keep a close eye on where their children were at all times.

“As well as being a safety net for parents, there could be real benefits for schools who could keep a closer track on the whereabouts of their pupils, potentially reducing truancy levels” says Rix.

Each year, Trutex supplies 1 million blouses, 1.1 million shirts, 250,000 pairs of trousers, 20,000 blazers, 60,000 skirts and 110,000 pieces of knitwear to the UK.

It is not the first company to manufacture school uniforms with a central focus on child safety; last week Essex firm BladeRunner revealed it was selling stab-proof school blazers to parents concerned about violence against their children. The blazers were outfitted with Kevlar, a synthetic fibre used in body armour. It has already received orders internationally, including Australia.

If the Trutex tracking devices go ahead, it is unclear where in the uniform they will be located.

Canterbury farmers to get aid because of snow

Tuesday, June 27, 2006

The New Zealand government officials have announced that it will give NZ$160,000 in aid to help farmers who were affected by the huge amounts of snow in Canterbury, New Zealand two weeks ago.

The aid package will provide four regional offices for co-ordination, food supplies and ongoing support.

The Federated Farmers for mid Canterbury say that the aid will be a start to what looks like a tough winter. President of the mid Canterbury Federated Farmers Rupert Curd says, “It is too early to say exactly how much help the relief package will provide.”

The snow has not yet reached a crisis point.

The Insurance Council has estimated the cost of the snow storm has reached $35 million so far. Chief Executive of the Insurance Council says, “There has been damage to homes, commercial premises both on farms and in town and vehicles. Businesspeople who have been without power are also claiming for loss of income.”

The Minister of Agriculture Jim Anderton has said that they are not ruling out giving further aid.

How To Start Your Own Forex Trading Online

Submitted by: Mark Aucamp

This information is created for anyone who has an interest in forex trading online to generate income part-time or full-time. New traders will need to learn the basic principles of the foreign exchange market before starting. Whilst experienced traders can cosider this a refresher in forex trading online.

There are basically four steps to follow if you are considering trading forex online. Though, their order is not particularly important, the more important part is their content, to which the great attention and responsibility must be paid.

Forex Trading Online – The First step

Selecting the right Forex Trading Broker online is your first step.. You could have a great strategy, good technical analysis skills or an outstanding intuition but you will ultimately fail if you choose a bad broker. A good forex broker is one that will not steal your money, will perform real trading with your positions and will support your chosen deposit and withdraw methods and has fast and helpful user support service. Look for a broker that is registered with some sort of governmental financial ombudsman. Probably the most important aspects of the broker is it s trading platform – but for a new trader this part is not so crucial as for expert traders. Still you ll want to trade with some powerful and informative platform as a MetaTrader or its analogs. For new traders the more important is a demo account which is often used to trade virtual money while you are training your forex skills. If you’re new trader, start only with the demo account! Don t lose your cash on your first mistakes! Take advantage of learning forex trading using a demo account even if you are eager to start earning money -play it cautious!

Forex Trading Online – The second step

Learning basic fundamentals of forex trading is an important second step. If you have already found your Forex Trading Online broker, you will easily get all information from its website or user support. There are numerous articles and websites dedicated to forex basics in the World Wide Web. All you have to do is just Google for forex trading basics and you ll find everything you wanted plus much more. This approach shouldn t be underestimated, because aiming to trade without learning the market works is not only very risky, it will also become boring soon.

Forex Trading Online – Third step

Education is a crucial third step to forex trading online. FX trading education is not similar to any other education you probably have got in your life. Forex Trading market is very chaotic, so is the training – there are no fixed rules and all time laws, it is unstable and dynamical. So, to be on the top you must learn new things about Forex Trading regularly and constantly. Aim to read plenty of books, articles other traders opinions as you can. The more you learn, the more educated you will be. And with good Foreign exchange education you will be able to create very sophisticated and effective trading strategies.

Forex Trading Online – Fourth step

To achieve the successful results in Forex Trading market you need to develop your very own strategies. While you are learning you ll be satisfied with known strategies and probably even forex signals. But true goal which results in successful forex trading is always to develop your own strategies. Not one strategy, but to follow the market day by day, developing new strategies and improving those which began to fail. And this comes not only to the trading strategy (this part is obvious), but also to the money management strategy (this part is often underestimated). While you gain experience of trading you ll inevitably build such strategies that will fit your trading style, you character and your life as best as they can. And after that, trading can become a genuine pleasure, which will eventually result in your financial freedom.

Iranian International Master Dorsa Derakhshani discusses her chess career with Wikinews

Tuesday, April 14, 2020

In February 2017, the Iranian Chess Federation announced two teenage chess players, Dorsa Derakhshani and her younger brother Borna Derakhshani, were banned from representing the national team. The federation announced their decision although Dorsa Derakhshani had previously decided and informed the chess federation she did not wish to play for Iran.

Dorsa Derakhshani is currently 21 years old and holds the International Master (IM) as well as Woman Grand Master (WGM) titles. Her brother, Borna, plays for the English Federation and holds the FIDE Master title.

Dorsa Derakhshani was banned since she did not wear a hijab, an Islamic headscarf, while competing at the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival in January 2017. Under the laws of Islamic Republic of Iran, hijab is a mandatory dress code. Her brother Borna Deraskhsani was banned for playing against Israeli Grand Master (GM) Alexander Huzman at the same tournament. Iran does not recognise the existence of Israel, and previously, Irani athletes have avoided playing against Israeli athletes.

Mehrdad Pahlavanzadeh, the president of the country’s chess federation, explained the decision to ban the players saying, “As a first step, these two will be denied entry to all tournaments taking place in Iran and in the name of Iran, they will no longer be allowed the opportunity to be present on the national team.” ((fa))Farsi language: ?????? ????? ?? ??? ??? ?? ??? ????? ?? ?? ???? ???????? ?? ?? ????? ? ?? ??? ????? ?????? ??????? ????? ??????? ? ???? ???? ???? ?? ??? ??? ?? ??????? ????. He further stated, “Unfortunately, something that should not have happened has happened and our national interest is paramount and we have reported this position to the Ministry of Sports.” ((fa))Farsi language: ????????? ?????? ?? ????? ????????? ?????? ??? ? ????? ??? ?? ?? ?? ???? ?????? ???? ? ?? ??? ???? ?? ?? ????? ???? ?? ????? ?????.

IM Dorsa Derakhshani, who currently studies at Saint Louis University in the United States and plays for the United States Chess Federation, discussed her chess career, time in Iran and the 2017 controversy, and her life in Saint Louis with a Wikinews correspondent.

US freezes assets of suspected terrorist

Friday, July 16, 2010

The United States Department of the Treasury has frozen the assets of terror suspect Anwar al-Awlaki. He is wanted in Yemen for his alleged participation in the Christmas Day bombing of a Northwest Airlines flight.

Al-Awlaki was denoted as a “key leader” of al-Qaeda. According to US Treasury Undersecretary Stuart Levey, al-Awlaki “…has sought to encourage his supporters to provide money for terrorist causes.”

Al-Awlaki was jailed in 2006 in a Yemen prison for kidnapping for ransom. He was released in 2007 and afterwards went into hiding.

This move by the Treasury placed al-Awlaki onto a list of Specially Designated Global Terrorists. This freezes his assets, prevents American citizens from sending him money, and disallows him from traveling to the United States.

Top Traveling Tips For Bolivia

Submitted by: Millard Marandi

You will find located charming Bolivia hotels offering premium quality accommodation to all visitors.

2.Bolivia Transportation- Traveling in a private vehicle, bus, van/truck, motorcycle, and taxi are easy types of transportation in and around the cities and towns of Bolivia. The prices frequently reflect the level of service, but this is not always the case. It is a lot more pricey to travel in private autos and is cheaper to travel in a van or truck. Pullman buses offer a middle ground for transportation and are usually not only the most abundant, but also provide comfort and safety while traveling.

To travel between regions is relatively easy within Bolivia. The highways and roads connect most significant cities with the smaller sized towns and villages. Considering that the majority of roads in Bolivia are not paved, access to specific locations will depend on the season during which you travel. Throughout the rainy season, a variety of remote villages remain isolated for days or weeks if the rain doesn t stop. The train system in Bolivia is limited to trips between the plateau as well as the valleys. It’s most likely to travel by train towards Chile, Argentina, and Brazil.

3.Bolivian Food

Eating in Bolivia is definitely an pleasurable and rich experience. Food in Bolivia has many different styles with thousands of great restaurants in all of the major cities and towns of Bolivia. All of them look to boast about one chef or another, which is good, but for most of us we want to get down to eating.

At the same time, food in La Paz and other Bolivian tourist resorts isn’t restricted to traditional Bolivian delights. Cuisine from all over the world may be found in Bolivia, including Asian, Indian, Middle Eastern, as well as other international taste. Some traditional dishes involve Majao which is a rice dish with eggs, beef and fried banana, Silpancho meat served with rice and potatoes, Pacumutu is a rice dish with grilled beef, fried yucca and cheese, Saltenas and Empanadas that are meat or vegetable pies, Locro is a soup made with rice, chicken and banana and Chicharron de Pacu made with the local Pacu fish, rice and yucca.

4.Shopping in Bolivia

Bolivia offers a large choice of artisan items with specific purchases such as llama and alpaca-wool goods, Indian handicrafts, woodcarvings and gold and silver costume jewelry. The streets across the market area, notably Sagarnaga, Linares and Illampu, are full of brief vendors providing goods at lower prices but quality can be variable. There are, however, several places around La Paz exactly where it is possible to buy good-quality goods and be sure that a percentage of your money is directly going back at the hands of artisans.
