Sensitivity With Whitening Trays}

Submitted by: Jason Scott Edworthy

One of the challenges with the whitening trays supplied by the dentists is the high level of sensitivity they create and as a result people do not complete the prescribed course they set out to achieve.

The reasons for this is that teeth whitening products placed on the teeth are designed to open the pores of the enamel to release staining being held in the micro pores. With the whitening trays this process occurs over a fourteen day period requiring them to be worn whilst you are asleep.

Now for deep level staining in the pores the trays can work very well and they slowly penetrate the staining over a sustained period but unfortunately the chance of getting sensitivity is also very high. This is because the micro pores stay open for the period you are using the trays and every day the trays are used the whitening gel will impregnate deeper and deeper and eventually this is what aggravates the nerve endings and causes the pain.

Customers then report the pain become so severe they stop after five to seven days just at the point when they trays start to remove the staining and therefore the whitening result is not as good as you would hoped when you embarked on purchasing the trays.

Sometimes it is worth trying to use the trays in four consecutive day periods and then having four to five days off before starting again as this will unlikely to give any sensitivity but will achieve the desired results just over a longer period.

After the initial period of wearing the trays and hopefully gaining the result you require it is worth noting the trays should be used regularly to remove staining that will re-appear. Most dentists will supply refill gels but places like ebay will also supply cost effective options from all the top brands.

As a long term solution the trays are a good investment as long as you are disciplined and stick to a long terms plan of teeth whitening but just phase the initial use as this will give you results and a comfortable experience.

Some people just could not consider sleeping with the trays as the thought of having something in your mouth for seven to eight hours per night is just not viable and therefore treatments like laser teeth whitening can a sensible option to the trays.

This treatment takes just one hour and one visit and customers prefer to not have the hassle of having to do something every day which requires immense discipline!

One of the areas of discipline is not consuming staining components we enjoy on a day to day basis including smoking, coffee, curries, tea, etc. This sounds simple in practise but not having a cup of tea for two weeks or not enjoying a cigarette for two weeks is near on impossible.

Unfortunately if you do stick to a neutral diet for the time prescribed then you risk inserting more staining in to the pres of the enamel than you are actually removing and therefore the process does not work!

Either way what you decide with teeth whitening good luck and hope it works for you.

Penske Auto selected to buy General Motors’ Saturn unit

Friday, June 5, 2009

General Motors Corporation (GM), an American automaker which has filed for bankruptcy protection, announced on Friday that the Penske Automotive Group (PAG) was selected to purchase Saturn Corporation. The transaction should be completed in October.

The purchase includes rights to the Saturn brand, its five current models and its dealership network. Two models would be discontinued, the Sky and Astra. GM would continue building the Aura sedan, the SUV’s, Vue and Outlook for at least two more years.

Saturn has 350 dealers across the United States. The dealers employ more than 13,000 jobs and sell only the Saturn autos. Canadian Saturn dealers are not included in the deal.

According to Penske future Saturn vehicles will be fuel economy focused. An expert indicated that this would move Saturn back to its roots of a entry level car company. PAG is in talks with several international automakers to replace GM after 2011. Automotive News reports that Renault Samsung Motors of Korea is the most likely candidate.

Penske wants Jill Lajdziak, Saturn’s general manager, and Tom LaSorda, former Chrysler President to head up the company when it is independent of GM.

Serra Automotive in Grand Blanc Township, Genesee County, Michigan, is in talks to take a partial ownership in a new Saturn lead by Penske.

Colleges offering admission to displaced New Orleans students/OH-WY

See the discussion page for instructions on adding schools to this list and for an alphabetically arranged listing of schools.

Due to the damage by Hurricane Katrina and subsequent flooding, a number of colleges and universities in the New Orleans metropolitan area will not be able to hold classes for the fall 2005 semester. It is estimated that 75,000 to 100,000 students have been displaced. [1]. In response, institutions across the United States and Canada are offering late registration for displaced students so that their academic progress is not unduly delayed. Some are offering free or reduced admission to displaced students. At some universities, especially state universities, this offer is limited to residents of the area.

Protests in Greece over proposed budget cuts

Monday, May 3, 2010

Widespread protests occurred Saturday against measures being enacted by the Greek government to reduce spending in order to reduce a severe debt crisis.

The capital of Athens was filled with an estimated 17,000 protesters at gatherings called by three separate political groups. During the protests, small groups of youth broke windows of several buildings, set a government press van on fire, burned trash barrels in barricades and threw rocks and firebombs at police officers.

Riot police arrested at least fourteen people and sprayed tear gas to disperse crowds. Seven policemen and two demonstrators were reported to be injured. Another estimated 5.000 people took to the streets in Thessaloniki.

The demonstrations were called to protest against government plans to cut major portions of the national budget in order to receive an estimated 120 billion euros in aid from the European Union and the International Monetary Fund. The government formally requested the activation of the bailout plan on April 23, 2010, after the cost of borrowing funds on the open market became prohibitively high.

About 9 billion euros in Greek government bonds will come due on May 19th; without the ability to borrow from the market, government officials had to turn elsewhere. The looming deadline, in combination with the recent uncertainty of the markets over the economic stability of Greece, Portugal and Spain, has put pressure on Greek, IMF and EU negotiators to work out the final details of the aid plan quickly so that it can go into effect as soon as possible.

Among the items to be agreed upon are the exact measures the Greek government is going to put in place over the next three years to cut its debt, and the precise amount of aid it will receive in exchange. The Greek Cabinet is to meet tomorrow morning to finalize the measures before the formal announcement at noon.

The cuts in spending are expected to cut both pensions and salaries to public service workers, while raising consumer taxes. Greek unions have opposed the measures and were a major part of the protests. A nation-wide strike in protest of the budget cuts is planned May 5.

A participant in one of the protests said that “These measures are death. How people are going to live tomorrow, how they’re going to survive, I do not understand.” Alexis Tsipras, of the Coalition of the Radical Left, opposed the budget cuts, saying that “The Greek people do not owe anything to anybody. Those who have brazenly robbed public money and pension funds should pay for the crisis.”

Greece’s Prime Minister, George Papandreou, however, said that the cost-cutting measures were inevitable, and that they were essential to the survival of the country.

Record number of failed banks reported in US for February

Sunday, March 1, 2009

According to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), a record number of banks for a calendar month have failed in the United States in February. A total of 10 banks failed in February, more than any other month since October of 2000. A total of 16 banks have closed this year so far, with 24 closing in 2008. If the current trend continues, the total number of failed banks will more than double in March, as compared to the total number of failed banks in 2008.

The list grew after the FDIC took over the funds from the Security Savings Bank of Henderson, Nevada and the Heritage Community Bank in Glenwood, Illinois on February 27. The FDIC issued press releases for both institutions.

The four branches of the Heritage Community Bank reopened on February 28 “as branches of MB Financial Bank,” stated the FDIC. The bank’s assets were worth nearly US$233 million and had customer deposits worth nearly $220 million. MB is expected to purchase $230 million of the bank’s assets and the FDIC will “retain the remaining assets for later disposition.”

“The two Security Savings Bank branches will reopen on Monday (March 2) as branches of Bank of Nevada,” stated the FDIC. The bank held assets worth approximately $238.3 million with customer deposits of nearly $180 million. Bank of Nevada will purchase approximately $111 million of the bank’s assets while the FDIC will retain the remaining balance, also “for later disposition.”

“The FDIC insures deposits at the nation’s 8,305 banks and savings associations and it promotes the safety and soundness of these institutions by identifying, monitoring and addressing risks to which they are exposed,” added the FDIC.

Both banks, when reopened, will immediately become members of the FDIC.

Hawaii Executive Leadership Coaching Tips}

Submitted by: Alisa Murphy

Hawaii can be a challenging place to find good executive leadership training programs. Executives often have to spend time and money traveling to the mainland for intensive courses that may or may not suit their style.

Executive leadership coaching is an alternative, but what does it mean? It means working with a coach over a period of six months to a year – the coach will give you personalized advice suited to your learning style and situation, and help you manage the stress of a high powered situation. It is not cheap, but it is definitely worth it.

The most critical items a good executive coach will address include:

Clarity: Leaders are typically very talented. There are many things they could do. But, how do we determine what we must do? A good coach will help you see the forest from the trees and pare down to the most important things you care about. They are able to stretch and grow your thinking to gently see a more empowering way.

Informative: Good coaches are well informed. They bring things to the table that you do not have time to find yourself. Leaders simply do not have time to read every book on leadership and life management. A good coach can synthesis the best information that you need in the right moment freeing you up to hit your other goals.

Balance NOT!: A good coach understands that there is no such thing as balance. You will never spend as much time per week with your family as you do in your vocation. Life is about fulfillment, not balance. A good coach will help you understand the difference between the two and help you reach objectives for each part of your life.

Who benefits the most from coaching?

The answer is somebody who is going through some kind of change, or who’s company is. The time to call up a coach is if you are changing jobs, being promoted, dealing with a merger or even approaching retirement. Whatever your situation is, your coach will have been trained to deal with it and almost certainly seen it before.

How do you get the most out of it?

First of all, you need to be willing to change and deal with criticism. Your coach will tell you what you are doing wrong and where you can approve, and many executives find that their work is associated with the core of their selves. And you need to remember that you are not doing this because you are a bad manager – but because you want to be an even better one.

You should not be afraid to use your coach as a sounding board and run ideas past them. Coaches work within confidentiality, like lawyers, and their ethics forbid them from telling your competition (or employees) what happened in the session.

Most importantly, you need to both provide feedback and be open to it. Tell your coach what is working and what is not, so he can give you the best advice.

Version 0.44 of SVG image software Inkscape released

Saturday, June 24, 2006

After 6 months of development, the Inkscape project released today a new version of their SVG-based GPLed vector drawing program. It features improved performance and many new features, such as a Layers dialog, better PDF export, configurable keyboard shortcuts and support for clipping and masking. Inkscape runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.

Inkscape started in 2003 as a fork of the vector drawing editor Sodipodi. Inkscape does not yet have as many features as the best commercial vector editors, but it is currently suitable for a wide range of applications. Inkscape’s implementation of SVG and CSS standards is incomplete; most notably, it has not yet fully implemented SVG filter effects, animation, and SVG fonts. Inkscape is currently under active development, which is indicated by the version number below one; new features were being added regularly.
